Reaching new audiences by redesigning the online experience of My World Mexico

My World Mexico was struggling to find the right structure for its website as it transitioned from a nonprofit to a social enterprise. I redesigned the site to better connect with its new audience and create space for everyone within the organization.

The problem

My World Mexico’s users struggled to find information on the website, and new clients had difficulty understanding its services as a social enterprise rather than a nonprofit.

Through interviews and research on other social enterprises, the reasons behind this problem became evident:

Unclear communication of services

Most people recognized My World Mexico for its campaigns and community programs, but the new services offered as a social enterprise were not clearly understood.

Limited visibility of impact

The results and achievements the organization had built over the years were not visible on the website. Highlighting this impact was essential to building trust and credibility.

Lack of local representation

The website focused heavily on international contexts and alliances but did not reflect the organization’s local impact within Mexico, which made potential clients doubt their local availability.

The process

Understanding My World Mexico’s internal needs and goals for potential new clients

To better understand the organization and its needs at the time, I applied several research methodologies that helped map out key priorities and define user personas representing potential new clients and partners.

After the research was completed, I created visual representations and clear insights based on the problems identified above, allowing us to develop potential solutions through a new website architecture and targeted improvements for each issue found.

Interviews with team members, clients, and partner organizations to understand their needs.

Heuristic analysis of the previous website to identify its strengths and weaknesses.

Benchmark analysis of similar social enterprises to review their messaging and highlighted elements.

Images are included as references of the work done but are blurred or unreadable due to confidentiality reasons.

Design and implementation

Making a website that followed their current technology and lasted through time

We developed a website on WordPress, using a template so we could focus more on the site’s architecture and usability. It was designed to be easy to maintain, as WordPress was the technology they were already using and one of their main requirements. The platform has proven durable and relevant—three years later, the site is still active, with only small updates like adding new campaigns or reports.

The current website is accessible through the button below, and you can also view the old version through the provided link.

My World Mexico

Creating a user-friendly website architecture

The website architecture was one of the most important parts of this project. The organization wanted to keep several sections of the previous site while also highlighting its new services.

I made sure there was space for every area of the organization, while ensuring that the main content—campaigns, blog posts, and programs—was easy to find through a clear, intuitive structure.

I also reduced the prominence of international organizations and emphasized the impact and stories generated by My World Mexico itself.

Previous website architecture

Building trust and credibility by displaying their impact through numbers and testimonials

Throughout the website, I added testimonials and impact metrics so that potential clients and new members could see the results and influence of the organization.

This was especially meaningful for the team, as they realized they had many inspiring stories to share and an impressive impact over the years that wasn’t being showcased on their previous website.

Making sure Mexico was part of My World: Highlighting local impact

My World Mexico originated as part of a global initiative with strong alliances to international organizations like the UN and the SDGs. However, to strengthen their local presence, I focused on showcasing national projects and the organization’s work within Mexico—the context that best reflects their true influence and connection to the community.

Outcome & lessons learned

The redesigned site successfully repositioned My World Mexico as a social enterprise while preserving its activist spirit.

Three years later, the main structure remains relevant—only updated with new reports, campaigns, and programs—demonstrating its long-term value.

From this project, I learned how to collaborate effectively with a large organization, coordinating across multiple teams and stakeholders to deliver the best results. I also gained hands-on experience with WordPress, managing a timeline aligned with the organization’s needs, and adapting to technical constraints.
